Dr Catherine Argyros

Preventative medicine and wellness is the most sacred gift anyone can offer to themselves.

Hello and welcome to my little corner of cyber space. I am a Chinese medicine practitioner, acupuncturist, body worker, and yoga teacher. As a mother and practitioner I have had the experience of administrating as well as receiving many of the techniques discussed and shared on my blog, with myself, my family, and my clients.

Why do I call myself The Barefoot Doctor?

Noun: A lay health care worker, especially in rural China, trained to perform tasks such as providing first aid, assisting in childbirth, and dispensing drugs.    (http://www.yourdictionary.com/barefoot-doctor)

In days long past, the Chinese medicine practitioner was a wandering doctor.  Someone who utilized the surrounding area for herbs and foods to fill prescriptions for their clients.  This meant they worked in conjunction with the seasons and their immediate environment.  ‘All within a days walk’, was the term used because the herbs and foods they utilized where sourced within that time frame.  They understood that everything the individual needed was directly available to them and that the best medicines where the ones flourishing in that season, climate, time and place.  They understood the vital link between the human being and their environment, the micro cosmic and macro cosmic connection.  Thus creating a seasonal approach that was intimately linked between the individual and their surroundings. Wellness is not just about living well, its about living in harmony with our landscape both within and without, its about being responsible, empowered, and self aware.

Most importantly, in those days they were paid when their client was well not sick.  How revolutionary! This truly supports a wellness industry.   I would like to see a return to this preventative measure as we all understand and appreciate, ‘prevention is far better than cure’.

Finally, as a yoga instructor and birth support person I often, literally, find myself barefooted.  This approach keeps me grounded in a role that is a service to my clients and community.

With over ten years’ experience, I continue to keep up to date with the latest information, research, and skills required to help my clients live the healthy life they want.

My areas of interest include:

  • women’s health, pregnancy, pre and post-natal support
  • turning breech, optimal delivery, induction
  • musculoskeletal conditions, lumbar pain, sciatica, SIJ injury, stiff neck and shoulders.
  • dietetics, gut health, IBS, weight loss, the art of fermentation, and detox
  • stress, anxiety, and depression
  • meditation and yoga
  • vertigo, tinnitus, and headaches
  • hashimoto’s
  • preventative medicine and adopting a healthy life style

I am passionate about the safe alternatives acupuncture and Chinese medicine can offer.  The push to make Chinese medicine a research based medicine means we can safely follow proven protocols of treatment. Where ever possible I hope to share this research with you here.

My approach as a healer is to help you understand how to nourish your body and spirit whilst you strive for inner harmony.  I offer my clients support with no judgement.  We share a proactive relationship which is employed to empower you along your path. This requires you live in accordance to nature, seasonal eating and listening to your body’s needs.   We cover, wholesome foods, yoga, meditation, detox, massage, ear candling, herbs, acupuncture, gua sha, cupping, exercise, and life style changes including ritual.   These are just some of the tools I will utilize to not only to help and support you along your path to wellness, but most importantly, I will also endeavor to teach you as much as I can so that you can be proactive as well as empowered within the experience.

This space is  intended as a resource for my clients. Information shared here is aimed at supporting their treatment plans and empowering them along their way to wellness.
